Series EPS210x environmental shrouds are a perfect choice for longer-term measurements in inclement weather. Its special acoustic windscreen material and configuration protect the microphone from rain, sleet, and snow. The shroud seals the preamplifier in a desiccated chamber, thus preserving performance in high humidity environments. The desiccant volume is many times greater than that of inline desiccant cartridges, for lasting protection without interference between the microphone and preamplifier. The shroud is also equipped with bird-spikes to deter winged intruders.
These environmental shrouds offer an inexpensive option compared with full outdoor microphone preamplifier systems with built-in rain hat, heater and electro-static actuator such as the Model 2100K. The excellent temperature stability of Larson Davis preamplifiers allows operation in a wide temperature range without an internal heater. Models EPS2106 and EPS2106-2 are designed to be mounted on a 3/4" solid wall PVC conduit or similar mating connector such as the ADP034 to interface with large outdoor tripods including the TRP003. EPS2108 and EPS2108-2 are variations of the EPS2106 design that can be mounted on a standard instrument or camera tripod having a 1/4"-20 mounting stud.
